Approaching Dawn

Approaching Dawn is one of my very first attempts at poetry. It is a rondeau, which is a particularly structured poem.

Approaching dawn lighting the day

Reveals my sins, life in decay.

Along the path, naught to follow,

Believe me, this is my morrow,

On my knees, hands clasped, I pray.

Recklessness has a price to pay.

Justice sought, yes, I did betray,

Freedom, no, not for my sorrow

Approaching dawn.

Silvery beams, comforting rays,

Enlightened words, please have your say.

Your advice I wish to borrow,

This moment now, I cannot wallow.

My shameful debt, must I repay

Approaching dawn.
